The Income Gap
The average weekly earnings in the UK are estimated at £741*. With just £123.25** a week in Statutory Sick Pay, your client could have a shortfall of £617.25 a week if they have no protection in place.

The FCA Market Study highlighted that 65% of the UK adult population does not have any form of protection insurance. Moreover, among the 35% who do have some form of protection, more of them have critical illness insurance (10%) than income protection (4%).*

Income protection is a type of insurance that protects a part of earnings. If your client is unable to work due to illness or injury and their earnings go down or stop, income protection will provide them with a regular benefit to help meet essential costs.
Income protection benefit will be paid for up to two years (if applicable), until retirement, or until they’re able to return to work.
Friendly societies are mutual organisations that are owned by and run for its Members. They have no shareholders and aren’t quoted on the stock exchange.
As a result, a mutual organisation can reinvest back into the business and focus on addressing the needs and preferences of its Members.

Please note, the form only captures the core medical information. When you submit the application online, you may be asked additional medical questions based on the client’s responses. This is because the online application tailors the questions to the information provided.
Commission is paid on the following Tuesday after the contract start date. For non-indemnity, commission is paid following the Member’s first premium payment (non-indemnity commission is paid monthly).
All application and contract documents can be found on your portal. Select the My Documents tab on the left and make sure the date range goes from when the application was first submitted to present day.

In accordance with the requirements of the Consumer Duty, a review has been carried out on our closed book income protection products, Health & Wealth, Income Assured Plus and My Earnings Insurance.
We have not identified any aspects of the products which prevents the Society from complying with its cross-cutting obligations, in relation to those Members who hold any of these products.
